Mentoring Support

Youth work:

Finding your strength, backing your future.

Life’s not always simple. Sometimes you just need someone who gets it, someone in your corner who’ll listen, support, and help you take the next step. That’s what our youth workers do. At Te Tahi Youth, youth work is about walking alongside you, building confidence, and helping you move towards where you want to be. And because we’re one team, you’ll also have access to counselling, doctors, nurses, employment support, and social workers if you need them.

How youth work can help:

  • Standing with you so your voice is heard
  • Building life skills and confidence
  • Finding your way through community services
  • Support with school, training, or job pathways
  • Budgeting, housing, or financial help (like Youth Payment)
  • Being there when you feel stuck, worried, or overwhelmed
  • Connecting you to the right people at Te Tahi Youth for extra support

Youth Voice & Leadership Group.

Build confidence. Find your voice. Lead your way.

Our Youth Voice & Leadership Group is a 15-week group programme for rangatahi aged 12–24 who want to grow confidence, connect with others, and step into leadership in a way that feels right for them.

This isn’t school, and it’s not therapy. It’s a supportive group space where young people come together weekly to learn, share ideas, build skills, and explore what leadership looks like for them.

The programme runs through weekly 60–90 minute group sessions, with mentoring support included. Together, we focus on building confidence, communication skills, teamwork, and goal-setting, all while creating real opportunities for young people to use their voice and be heard.

You don’t need any experience, and there’s no pressure to already see yourself as a “leader”. If you’re curious, want to try something new, or are ready to build confidence in a supportive environment, this group could be for you.

Programme start: 19 March (subject to numbers)

Transition to Adulthood Support.

Moving beyond care or custody.

Stepping into adulthood is a big milestone and you don’t have to do it alone. Our Transition Kaimahi are here to back rangatahi aged 15–25 who’ve spent time in Oranga Tamariki care or youth justice custody. If you’ve been in care or custody for a while since you turned 15, this support could be for you.

We’ll focus on your strengths, your goals, and your future, supporting you to build on what’s already there and take the next steps with confidence.

We can walk alongside you with things like:

  • Finding a safe and stable place to call home
  • Exploring work, training, or study pathways that fit your skills and dreams
  • Sorting finances and accessing legal advice so you feel secure and informed
  • Connecting you with health care, counselling, and wellbeing support to keep you strong
  • Building everyday life skills, like cooking, driving, and managing your own space, so you can thrive independently

This support is flexible, youth-led, and built around you. We’ll celebrate your wins, back your choices, and walk alongside you as you create the future you want.
