Social Worker – Youth Mental Health.
He Kōrero mō te tūranga: About the Role
Full time
We are seeking a registered Social Worker to join our team in a pivotal role supporting rangatahi experiencing mild to moderate mental health and wellbeing challenges.
This role is funded through the Manu Ka Rere (MKR) Access and Choice service and delivered by Te Tahi Youth as part of our integrated Youth One Stop Shop model. This means the role also works alongside rangatahi who may present with higher levels of complexity but are not engaged in specialist services, requiring coordinated, multidisciplinary support.
This role moves beyond a traditional caseload, combining direct mahi with rangatahi alongside triage, coordination, and system-level support.
You will act as a key entry point into service, working alongside rangatahi and our multidisciplinary team to:
- Assess need, risk, and urgency
- Support access to appropriate mental health and wellbeing services
- Coordinate care across internal and external supports
- Ensure safe, coordinated support across the team and wider services for rangatahi with more complex needs
Alongside this, the role includes a consistent level of direct engagement, including:
- Providing brief to medium-term intervention and support
- Maintaining a caseload aligned with service expectations
- Supporting engagement with 100+ rangatahi annually
You will also:
- Facilitate and contribute to Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) discussions
- Support oversight of rangatahi requiring additional support and monitoring
- Bring a social work and systems lens to how we respond to complexity
This role will suit someone who enjoys balancing direct mahi with rangatahi alongside coordinating support across a wider system.

Why join Te Tahi Youth?
The role offers the opportunity to work in a highly relational, integrated youth service, where the focus is on what works best for rangatahi rather than fitting within rigid systems.
You will be part of a team that values collaboration, trust, and long-term impact, working together to provide genuinely joined-up support for young people.
This role sits within a not-for-profit setting, with remuneration aligned accordingly. It will suit someone who is motivated by meaningful mahi, strong team culture, and the opportunity to work differently.
Our Team:
- Works closely across disciplines to provide joined-up, holistic support
- Values relationships, trust, and long-term impact over throughput alone
- Supports each other through complex and challenging mahi
- Is committed to continuous improvement and doing things differently where needed
This role will suit someone who is motivated by:
- Working in a collaborative, kaupapa-driven environment
- Having variety in their mahi across direct practice and coordination
- Being part of a service that is responsive, flexible, and grounded in the realities of rangatahi lives
We also offer:
- 5 weeks annual leave
